Atakapas-Ishak are a native tribe who occupy the Gulf region. Known as "The People". Their footprint is found throughout Southwest Louisiana and parts of Texas. Known for their brown colored skin, their descendants are often referred to as the Creole Indians or natives of Color. The tribe is active to this day and their presence is represented and celebrated in our modern-day trading post.
We are a co-operative outpost and giftshop in Downtown Lafayette. Our store is made up of diverse, multi-cultural businesses working together in collaboration. Attakapas Collective is a safe haven for artisans to pursue their artistic endeavors. We are a female, BIPOC owned and operated business supporting other small business owners. Through this innovative space, we encourage one another to realize their creative passions.
In the spirit of the Attakapas people, this collective nurtures a collaborative space of ideas, one-ness and commerce; as the original tribal trading post served as a local junction or "meeting of the minds" for people of all nations, we too strive to create a positive, inclusive community. "We are the dreams of many!"
